Festival promotes culture, tourism
More than 10,000 tourists and locals gathered on Lang Co Beach in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on July 9 for the opening of the Lang Co Festival 2011.
The two-day event, which aims to feature the natural and cultural beauty of Lang Co – Canh Duong and introduce its potential for tourism, is just one of the activities planned to prepare for the National Year 2012 which will be hosted by Thua Thien-Hue.Highlights of the event included beach football and volleyball, surfing, boat and coracle races and exhibits of miniature models of ships and aircraft. The event also aimed to review the contributions Lang Co had made to promoting tourism development in the province two years after it was recognised by Worldbays Club as one of the World's Most Beautiful Bays. |
Vietnam-Japan cultural exchange to be held in Hoi An ancient city
Hoi An ancient city People’s Committee will coordinate with the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam and the Japan Centre for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam to organize the 9th Vietnam-Japan cultural exchange on August 21st and 22nd.
Diverse cultural activities and folklore games such as demonstrations of Kimono, Yukata and Vietnamese ao dai, boat racing and an exhibition on artistic and news photos will take place during the festival.Tourists will also have an opportunity to watch artisans from traditional villages in Hoi An city making products. Artisans from Japan will perform the art of making traditional cakes and packing gifts with the traditional Japanese Furoshiki scarf. |
Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Song and Dance Festival to open
The Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has decided to organise the Song and Dance Festival of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia in Quang Tri province in July.
The ministry authorized the Performing Arts Department (PAD) to work with the Quang Tri Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the International Cooperation Department and the Vietnam Musicians’ Association to host the event.The ministry also asked the PAD to be responsible for developing prorgammes and training performance troupes at the festival. |
China, Laos, Vietnam engage in ‘con’ hurling festival
Jiangcheng district in China’s Yunnan province will host a traditional ‘con’ throwing festival on November 10-12 for participants from Vietnam, China and Laos.
This was announced by authorities of Vietnam’s Muong Te district in Lai Chau province and China’s Jiangcheng district at a July 2 meeting in Muong Te on the border with China.At the meeting, the two sides agreed on the components of the festival, which will include cultural and arts activities, folk games, and cuisine from different ethnic groups, and introduce their various commercial goods. |
Central ethnic minority cultural festival kicks off
The Cultural, Sports and Tourism Festival for people in the Central and Central Highlands regions kicked off on July 1 in the southern central province of Phu Yen.
The event, as part of the National Tourism Year 2011 which puts spotlight in sea and island tourism, drew the participation of 500 artists from 14 regional provinces, who brought to the audience their most distinctive traditional music performances.Addressing the ceremony, Huynh Vinh Ai, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism affirmed that the event aims to develop Vietnam’s tourism and encourage localities to build their own tourism trademarks, contributing to building a Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity. |

Inauguration of tour to Bac Ha Horse Race 2011
The Fifth Bac Ha Traditional Horse Race Open 2011 will take place on May 28th and 29th at the Bac Ha Town Stadium (Lao Cai Province). This event, hosted by the People's Committee of Bac Ha District, is one of the activities in the tourism program “Returning to Roots 2011” of three provinces, including Phu Tho, Yen Bai and Lao Cai.
Horse race is a unique culture - sport activity of ethnic groups in Bac Ha District, especially Mong ethnic group. This activity existed many years ago but it had been lost in oblivion.
